Laugh and Breathe

Originally written in 2022 - Published 2024 Laugh and Breathe These were the words I picked for this year. - Laugh...and Breathe - I felt like I needed to relearn how to back off and just enjoy life as it's happening again. As it always seems to go, life happens in such a way to make it a challenge. One part of trying to laugh and breathe is simply (trying) not to stress because I can't get to everything. I've tried to simplify in many areas to make it easier to just breathe and enjoy ... View Post

Are you growing flowers or weeds?

Your mind is a gardenYour thoughts are the seedsYou can grow flowers Or you can grow weeds. I came across this little poem recently. I do not know who wrote it, but I had to stop and re-read it. Maybe it was because I am prepping for this year's garden. Maybe it is because it was very fitting to some issues the kids are struggling with. No, nothing too serious, but just those growing up and out things. But it also made me pause and think about what I am growing as well. Planting I ... View Post

Christmas Hymn

O Come O Come Emmanuel

Every month we are singing a couple of hymns with our evening Bible time. I often either know the history of a hymn or I research it. This month one of our hymns is O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. It is also one I've never researched before. I found it's background interesting and thought I would share. Background First, the words to O Come, O Come Emmanuel come from a 7-verse, Latin poem written in the 8th Century. It contains a rich background we have missed in modern hymns. This is ... View Post

Rooted and established in God’s faithfulness

How was your year? Mine was rough. Near the end of last year I had a panic attack so severe I could barely help put the kids to bed. It was almost impossible to keep functioning. Then it returned in the night. The only way I could keep my mind from being completely overwhelmed was to repeat: "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust" from Psalm 91:2. Somewhere while repeating that over and over (I was having trouble even keeping that going) I managed to pray something along the ... View Post

Apostates shown in Chiasm

Signs of Apostates

This last couple of months I have been part of a study of the book of Jude and at church, we’ve been studying the churches at the beginning of Revelation.  And, there is a connection.  The connection is apostates. An apostate is one who falls away (or turns off on a side road) from true faith in God.  First, we will look at some of the points of Jude and then the connection to some of the churches mentioned in Revelation. The book of Jude is set up as a chiasm (pronounced ki-azm, use a long ... View Post

The Prince’s Own History

It is well known that kings never travel alone.  They do not visit those spoiled and soiled parts of the world where the untrained, untruthful, and untrustworthy ways of people are encouraged.  However, the King in our story is not like the others.  He searches out wretched people and pulls them out of their misery. One day while he was searching, the King found a boy curled into a tipped-over trash can.  Only his feet were visible, but his crying could be heard. ... View Post
